Just Seven Clicks!

April 12th, 2007
Sushi flowers!

It's been over two weeks since I ordered my bento box and it hasn't gotten here yet! The website I purchased it from has really weird notifications once you order something. First you get a "thanks for ordering" email. Then another one comes when the order is processed. A third one when it moves to "ready to be shipped" status. I was a little bit overwhelmed but I figured it had been shipped. Two weeks later, still no bento. :(

I email the company and a couple days later "oh yeah we were out of stock on that". Well gee, thanks for letting me know! So glad that I paid extra for fast shipping just so I could wait an extra two weeks for an email saying my box wasn't even available. :(

But thankfully, I got a lovely fifth email yesterday telling me it was shipped. Now I must wait another week. *sigh* Oh well. At least I can go visit a few Japanese markets in the meantime, to prepare! :) Some great ones were recommended to me, woot!

I'm glad so many people enjoyed my silly flash game, hehe! Pirate Bob was very happy to find his treasure many times over, I'm sure. :D For those of you who are curious as to how to "solve" the game, I'll give you one hint. You can get to the treasure seven clicks after you press start. :) It's just the matter of choosing the right path! Each screen only gives you two options. If you can remember what you picked before, then you should be able to win! Good luck if you want to try again! Bob will share a pint with you if you do! :D

Something random...has anyone noticed that Wikipedia is taking over the internet world?? I mean, you can google almost anything and you're guaranteed to find a link to it on the first page of your search results. Things like bump, o rly and booty (which is Bob's favorite word) are all in there. And what is just so sad is that a lot of these silly words and phrases have full paragraph descriptions for them! Like the internet slang "LOL", which has a full analysis section! Ah Wikipedia...we love you. :)

Of course, I must link a few neato sites I've found recently. Sweetie Icons may become my newest favorite icon site, aside from Famfamfam.com. If you happen to use Twitter then this list of tools will be very beneficial to you! I also linked a couple good ones in my last Snippets post in the sidebar, so be sure to check those out too! :)

I plan to whip up a new layout design soon, hopefully. If you have any suggestions or critiques of my site as it is now...design and content, please feel free to let me know! I really do want to make it easier and more enjoyable to browse around.

I graduate from my university in 22 days. Oh. My. Gawd. *panics!* Real life. Can I handle it? Who knows, I'm just trying to get through this week! :P I hope everyone is having a good one!

Edit: Oh I almost forgot! A new episode of the :podcast: podcast is out! Go listen! :D

I love Wikipedia. Without it, I would have failed many exams and just generally had no clue about anything. That and Urban Dictionary are constantly open in my tabs!

Juice Apr 12, 2007

Wikipedia is like an unknown addiction. When you wanna find out about something you can’t help but typing wikipedia.org to know what it is. lol.

Sweetie Icons and Famfamfam have the spiffiest mini icons! :D

Cristina Apr 12, 2007

Dude, I flippin LOVE Wikipedia. It has gotten to a point now where I barely Google anything and I just go straight to Wikipedia. I think probably one of the big reasons why it’s so addictive is because you’ll be reading an article and because different words/phrases are linked, you click on one thing and before you know it you’ve wasted a whole day on Wikipedia. I love it because I feel so informed afterwards, haha!

Chien Yee Apr 12, 2007

Wikipedia is taking over my life! I keep reading it to find more information lol.

I’m sure you can make it for the next 22 days. I’ve been having two weeks of torture whatnot with tests (two weeks ago) and exams (in three weeks’ time)

Why do I feel that you’d be able to make a lovely design like this one? :) it’s pretty obvious, considering what a skilled webmaster you are :D

Mallory Apr 12, 2007

I use Wikipedia for quick info. I actually had to use it on an essay once because I could not find information anywhere else. -__-

I’ve bought from Jlist before. Usually when buying things from Japan, you’re going to have to wait even if you get EMS. XD I usually pay for SAL unless I need a tracking number or insurance. Hope you get the bento soon.

Daniel Nenadovic Apr 12, 2007

I liked Bob. I was hoping for a ‘car full of midgets’ option, but meh.

I’ve yet to figure out the bento thing. My psych prof is japanese, though, and he says japanese people have crazy fads, so whatever.

I also like wikipedia. What I DON’T like is that most of my professors don’t count it as a valid source because it’s edited by the public. That’s a bunch of bull. Just because the internet can teach me more in less than five minutes than they could manage in an hour doesn’t mean it’s not a valid source. yeesh.

ZOMG. BLIZZCON 2007 was announced. Turt, Scourch, and I will go. Even though I don’t play WoW any more, I’m hoping to see something starcrafty or diablo-eque there, and it’s a load of fun to hang out with a bunch of geeks and get pictures with the hot model dressed up as Nova from Ghost.

Kurt Vonnegut died today =(. I liked Slaughterhouse Five, but I spose everybody has to go out some day.

And Don Imus lost his job today. Completely and utterly. Lol, what a frizzy-haired ho that guy was.

Randomness. I’ll stop. Have a good one.

Maria Apr 12, 2007

Yeah, it sucks to know that the company didn’t bother to tell you about all their issues. I figure that if an item is out of stock, they should immediately change their site’s inventory as well.

But at least it’s in the mail now! Perhaps you could try to get some money back for not getting your item sooner and having to wait? Especially since you paid for the “faster” service…

That was an interesting game. Lol. Good job with that.

Yes, Wikipedia has taken over everything. Almost everything I search for has a Wikipedia result. But most of the time, it’s quite useful.

Jordan Apr 12, 2007

That twitter list is missing the TWITTERIM screenname they have for AIM users. That’s what I started using last night, and it’s pretty neat. It’ll IM you when your first add a new twit and you can twit through it. A lot faster than opening up a web browser if you’re on the pc.

Katrina Apr 12, 2007

I’m totally interested in bento now. I need cookbooks! (And a rice steamer, probably.)

And Pirate Bob is pretty cool! :gb:

Bubs Apr 12, 2007

Too bad about the bento box being late… I’d want my ‘fast delivery’ money back :P

Melissa Apr 13, 2007

@Amber: LOL, I know what you mean, I’ve learned more things on that site than I have in some classes! XD

@Juice: Yep, I do that too, all the time! :D And ditto about the icons, definitely the spiffiest!

@Cristina: Yeaaahhh! :D Haha, I barely google either because most of the time a Wikipedia article pops up anyway! :D

@Chien: Aww, thanks that’s so nice of you to say! ^_^ Oh and good luck on your exams!

@Mallory: Wow, you just know there’s something weird going on when Wikipedia is the oNLY resource! XD I hope I get it soon too. :( It was just silly because I bought another bento box (for my sister) on eBay from Japan as well and got it within five days. And that was with FREE shipping! The site’s email system messed up a bit I guess. =/

@Dan: NOOO, Blizzcon needs to STOP being in CA and come over to the East coast for once, GRRR!! And lol, I like randomness, feel free to be random anytime! :D

@Maria: Yeah I agree, they should at least put up some notice or something…or have a backorder queue. *sigh* Oh well! I may try to get some money back since I did pay for extra shipping…hmm…oh, and glad you liked the game, haha!

@Jordan: Oh that’s cool! I have Twitter’s Google Talk option thingie that does something like that. I agree, I likes it lots better than pulling up the browser. Woot for lazyness! XD

@Katrina: Yay bento, yeah! :D And Bob likes you too! XD

@Bubs: Yeah I may work on getting something back…grrr…I want that box! XD

Holly Apr 13, 2007

Hey! I love your site! I found it via Cristina’s links :)
I love the bento boxes btw, very very cool, i hope they ship to you soon, I’d have been confused by all the notification emails too!

Angela Apr 13, 2007

OMG I love those icons at sweetie! They’re so cute! And yayness for Twitter tools. I always update by im, so much easier :P.

OMG on graduating! Just breathe, you’ll be fine :D! *hugs*

Melissa Apr 13, 2007

@Holly: Aw, thanks! ^_^ And yeah, I hope I get it soon too! I’m sooo impatient, haha!

@Angela: Yeah! Aren’t they the precious?! XD And woooo I hope I will be fine…I want it to be here but I don’t at the same time…bittersweet emotion. :P

Grace Apr 13, 2007

Awww…. that’s really unfortunate. I hope you get it soon. And you should ask for your money back for fast shipping since it’s FAST shipping. Doesn’t fast shipping take faster?
I’ll go play the game after this comment. It sounds fun. :)
I noticed too. Wikipedia is taking over. And there’s Wikisearch. *sigh*

Melissa Apr 13, 2007

I know right! XD If it doesn’t get here by next week I’m asking for a full refund or some kind of credit. It’s just ridiculous. :P

Hope you enjoyed the game! :D

Jessica Apr 13, 2007

Hehe I noticed about wiki-pedia too. I use it a lot when I wants a laymans explanation of something. Those icons are cute too. I dl’ed them & am playing around with them. I’dalso be bitchin’ about the delivery issue.

Oh yeah I moved to my other domain, blackrainboe.com Although dementedkisses.net is still open till May. ;)

Melissa Apr 13, 2007

Ooh, yeah I keep meaning to switch your domains. :P I go do that now! :D

Susan Apr 14, 2007

That sushi flower icon is sooo adorable! ^^”
Haha yeah Wikipedia definitely is taking over the world. I use them for everything. From school research, to looking up a band, or movie, it’s become a part of life. :)
LOL I just played your pirate game! That’s really good! :D

Melissa Apr 14, 2007

I agree, its so pretty! :D And definitely, Wikipedia is the real world encyclopedia replacement. Oh and I’m glad you enjoyed the game! :D

Scot Smith Apr 15, 2007

I hate it when a website does that to me, ahhhh….! This Bento box thing seems interesting, I may have to do a bit of research.

Nice to meet you though!
– Scot

Hannah Apr 15, 2007

Ugh! I would be so upset about the bento box thing. I hope you get it within the next day or two or else personally I suggest you cancel the order, if possible. :(

Haha, Wikipedia seriously has taken over. Even in some of my classes, my professors will be all, “the essay is due next class. NO WIKIPEDIA!!!”

Melissa Apr 15, 2007

@Scot: Nice to meet you too! :D Hehe, yeah the bento thing is awesome! I’m totally getting obsessed. :P

@Hannah: I will definitely cancel it if I don’t receive it this week…either that or ask for part of my money back. It’s just silly. :P Hahaha, that’s hilarious about your classes! XD

Jem Apr 16, 2007

It’s pretty standard to get multiple emails when ordering goods over the Internet. When I order t-shirts from syswear I get a “we have received your order”, a “we are preparing your order”, a second “we are preparing your order” (don’t know why) and finally a “the order has been despatched”. It’s thorough, I guess :)

As for wikipedia - the more people link to it, the higher its rank will climb and the more likely it will appear on the 1st page of search results for more things.

Amy Apr 16, 2007

You still haven’t gotten your Bento box yet? That sounds really unprofessional, especially since you paid extra for fast shipping. Mmm shopping for Japanese food is gonna be a lot of fun. I think I’m getting a craving for Japanese food.

Wikipedia is taking over the internet! However, I always find myself looking for the Wikipedia link when I use Google too. It always seems to have all the info that I need. Granted it’s probably not always accurate, so I always search elsewhere just to be sure.

Oooh you’re graduating soon! Congratulations! How exciting! I know how you feel. I’m kinda looking forward to my graduation, but I’m also secretly dreading it. I don’t think I’m ready to be out in the ‘real world’. :(

Sarah Apr 16, 2007

Wikipedia is definitely the expert on anything pop culture or Internet culture-related. Those Bento boxes are cute! I’ve never heard of them before.

Melissa Apr 16, 2007

@Jem: Yeah, thorough but so weird! I like receiving emails about processing when I buy things online, but not when they are full of nonsense and generally useless, ha! XD And Wikipedia will soon end up on the first page for every word known to man, I figure. :P

@Amy: Hehe, I am obsessed with Japanese food now. And that is true, I think I find myself looking for Wikipeda first as well…sometimes I even replace using search engines for it! Thanks for the congrats! I don’t think I’m really ready either…when are we ever? But oh well… :)

@Sarah: Yeah, I love bento boxes! There are so many different kinds it boggles the mind. XD

Faith Apr 18, 2007

Oh, honey. You’re going to the wrongest place ever to buy Bentos. Since I started collecting mine, the ebay bento resources have skyrocketed, and they have all sorts of purdie accessories that Jbox doesn’t have. ( not that Jlist doesn’t rock, I get my ‘beware of female perverts’ merch and loose socks from them, lol )

I wouldn’t worry about Jbox/Jlist, though, they take forever to ship but it will get to you eventually. A lot of the goods ship from Japan to San Francisco then to you, so it takes awhile.

If you get a chance, check out ebay stores like The Bento Store ( thebentostore.com ), Tokyo Gift, Japan Kitty, ect. The customer service from Tokyo Gift, especially, is out of this world and you get your order in maybe 2 weeks, depending on the seller.

Another link you might like is http://cookingcute.com, I can’t get through my day without a visit there, lol.

Melissa Apr 18, 2007

Hehe you know what’s funny? I ordered almost the exact same box from eBay on the exact same day as I did from J-Box (with FREE shipping nonetheless) and it got to me in four days, arrrg! :P Yeah I should really buy stuff like that from now on.

And Cooking Cute is AMAZING, I agree! I actually found that site too during my bento research and have been just waiting to try out some of the recipes on there, I loooove that site! :D :D :D

When I get more extra money I’m totally going to get another bento box, from eBay this time! XD
