What comes to your mind when you read that title?
World peace? Bob Marley? Hippies on a bus tossing flowers in the air?
I was given an assignment in a class the other day to take a picture of something "ugly" in a beautiful way. So after thinking about it for a while I first took shots of a bunch of burnt rice stuck to the bottom of a pot.
They came out alright but I wasn't really that satisfied. Then I tried taking a few while looking through the center of a roll of TP and that was just "ok" too.
I was glancing around the Box just trying to get more ideas...when I saw it! Sitting patiently on a shelf, and I just giggled out loud with glee!
Seriously, every time I see a slinky, I always picture Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura 2 hopping and dancing down the steps of a temple singing: "Everyone loves a slinky, a slinky, a slinky! Everyone loves a slinky, GO slinky GO!" I love it!
So the picture I ended up taking was the perspective inside of a slinky, with some light shining in the background. I thought it came out great! Click on that picture above to see a larger version. I was able to take it with my manual Nikon camera and develop it in a photo lab. It's been a while since I've done that!
Oh yes, and we also had to write a haiku for our photo.
Here is what I wrote:
Everyone loves me,
I do fall gracefully
from the highest stair.
What do you think? It fits the emotions of a slinky, yes?
In other news, I am now a Worker Bee for the Quilting Bee, woot! I'm very excited and I'm going to do my best to be a great help to the others in the club.
I also have updated the layout design of my quilt and re-organized everything in it! Now it will be easier for me to update as well as any visitor to smoothly browse. Yay!
Oh and the new community Virb has finally opened its doors to the public! It is another social website that combines music, videos and blogging. For example, like Last.fm, you can download a little plugin for iTunes so it can catch your most recently played music. Looks-wise, it has the flexibility of MySpace combined with the somewhat beauty of Facebook. I think it mixes well. I was fortunate enough to snag a beta invite from Joey and try it out before it went public. The profile styling options are very neat and not ugly at all like MySpace. My eyes bleed when I look at MySpace. Even my own profile, which I tried to fix up as best as I could for kicks, is still as ugly as hell.
But I will agree with Jordan that their new index page is very cool, although I think it could use some spice. Maybe more graphics aside from just pictures and rounded buttons. They are still new so I'm not giving a final judgment just yet. I see this becoming big eventually though, like most social sites are. I'm not sure how active I'll be. Facebook has always been my favorite, don't know why. But if you end up making a profile on there, friend me!
That reminds me. Today may be a podcast recording day, hoorah! Anyone interested in hearing discussion on all these community sites popping up? Give your opinion here if you like, whether you love them or hate them, your favorites, etc. I may quote you on the show if that's ok. This would be an interesting subject to discuss.

@Arien: Oooh, I never heard of doing that to horses! That must have looked really pretty, hehe, I totally would have done that too!
I’ll find something for you on validation, etc…if I can’t find anything…I’ll help you myself!
And glad you liked the photo, yay!
@Dan: Aww, thanks!
And yeah the camera used to take that photo is manual, but I probably will have to sell it.
I need money and I doubt I’ll ever get much more into photography than I already am.
@Carly: Thank you! And I agree with you about the metal coil of the slinky…looks so much better in motion! Yeah, MySpace is just…insane, hehe. I hope it either fizzles out eventually or the coders for the site get smart and make it better.
@Angela: Yay thanks! I agree, Virb really does help out the advanced and the beginner. Something MySpace definitely lacks.
