300 Spartans!

300

I literally just got back from seeing 300 tonight. It was awesome! The story, the characters, the effects, the music! It all came together so beautifully! Definitely a must-see for anyone who loves epic movies. I positively love that genre of film, like Lord of the Rings, with all of the incredible scenery, costumes, weaponry, etc. I enjoy being enchanted by other worlds and woven into the plot so deeply that I forget I'm in the theater.

I believe the best costumed character was definitely Xerxes, with all of his bling. Yes, his sexy gold bling! I'm surprised that man didn't have a gold grill on his teeth! How could he walk! By the way, Rodrigo Santoro (the actor who plays him) looks nothing like him in real life, hehe. Talk about a four hour makeup prep!

My sister saw it last week and the first thing she said to me about it was: "Every man in that movie had a six pack. Abs of steel! Oooh yeah!" Haha! And she was right! As I watched the Spartans march to battle, I looked at them all and sure enough, every single one of those shield bearing hunks had a very hawt set of abs. Hehe! I think when this movie comes out on DVD I will hope that the bonus features talk about what it took for these guys to buff up to standards for their characters. I'm sure some of it is make-up, but a lot still has to be just pure man! ;)

Oh yeah, and I'm back home now. :) Back to my beloved hi-speed, oh yes! And I have lots of plans to keep optimizing my site so be prepared for changes, yarrr!

Ahhhhh, I LOVED that movie. It was amazing. And yeah, all the girls I know who saw it can’t stop talking about the 6 packs, and all the guys I know who saw it are suddenly obsessed with going to the gym haha!

Melissa Mar 20, 2007

@Caitlin: Heehee, for realz! I guess maybe seeing soooo many people with “hardbodies” is really inspiring for some. XD

Angela Mar 20, 2007

Oh man, I LOVED that movie. It was so great. On the way home, the guys were discussing it and that was one of the first things they brought up. How every guy in the movie had a 6-pack if not an 8-pack rofl. They had me laughing for a while with all the comments!

Welcome back home!

Melissa Mar 20, 2007

@Angela: LOL, funny that guys were the ones talking about it! XD Thanks for the welcome, yaaay! ^_^

It was beautiful. I’m only sad that I’ve only seen it twice. Hopefully Turtlion will come up from San Diego this weekend and we can see it again =)

Here are some humorous ytmnds made from it, though. They are also quite entertaining.

but, yeah, 300 was bodies. and i have talked to several women who loved it, mainly, from what i gather, because of gerard butler’s naked ass and teh ripped abs, yes. most guys don’t seem to have enjoyed a large portion of the female nudity, including me, largely because the lesbians that Xerxes tempts Ephialtes with all look like they are lesbian just because no guy would ever be that desperate (sorry to be judgmental, but yeah, it’s true).

but, yeah, 300. that’s all that needs to be said: 300

Oh, and, sorry to double post, but yeah, what makes it even better was that it was VERY loosely based on the real-life battle known as the Battle of Thermopylae, in which 300 spartans and 5000 free greek soldiers held off the millions of persians and died just long enough to let the rest of greek figure out that it needed to unite and kick some butt, which it does. if i remember correctly, in the last battle that is shown in the movie (it’s supposed to be the one where all of greek is united, duh) the greeks and spartans had something like 200 casualties while Xerxes lost almost his entire force.

Melissa Mar 20, 2007

@Dan: LOL at those YTMNDs! XD I thought the part where the King was naked in the moonlight was kind of weird. Mostly because I thought he was standing really awkwardly in that window. XD Some guys sitting behind me were all like “eww”, hehe.

Anna Mar 20, 2007

Hey, thanks for the comment on my blog :)

I laughed at the part when you said that they should have gold grills :D

Jordan Mar 20, 2007

The six packs annoyed me after the first ten minutes. Judging by the shadowing, I’m sure they had some extra air brushing to add onto them.

I’ll definitely agree with Xerxes, though I was also loved the masks used for the Immortals; Something that stood out moreso, since they were more sinister in design, then anything else. Loved it though.

Hopefully I’ll be seeing it again this weekend, though I have a feeling I’ll end up seeing TMNT instead :P

I want to watch 300 rather bad. But when I get the courage to think about it and tell hubby when we get money we should I start feeling bad. I haven’t been able to watch those movies since my gma died. If she was alive I would take her to see that movie even if it was my last money for the rest of my life. She loved these kinds of movies (to do with biblical times & all those things). One day I might be able to watch Ben Hur without crying.

Lexi Mar 20, 2007

I loved 300…such a great movie! The abs were definitely airbrushed a ton and I’m sure some of them even used prosthetics to get the effect. It was such a great movie though, everything about it worked perfectly.

Melissa Mar 20, 2007

@Anna: Heehee! Hells yes, he should! XD

@Jordan: Those masks were definitely cool, quite creepy…fit the characters perfectly! :D Hmm, I don’t know if I will see TMNT in the theaters…I may just wait for it to come out on Netflix and check it out then. I miss the old Turtle movies! You’ll have to post your opinion about it!

@Jessica: Aw. :( Sorry to hear about your grandma. I know what you mean though, when my grandmother was alive she liked those movies too, I would do the same as you to take her there, no matter what. :)

@Lexi: Prosthetics! I never thought about that! Ooh…now I really want to see how all the costumes and such were made! :D

Caitlin Mar 20, 2007

Melissa, I just wanted to let you know I’ve linked to your site on mine. I really love your site and I find myself here a lot so I added you to my dailies. Hope that’s okay. ;)

Melissa Mar 20, 2007

@Caitlin: Aww, yay! :D Of course it’s ok! :D I have you on my feed reader, too, so woot! I’ve yet to make a “dailies” list but it’s on my to-do list hehe. ^_^

Jordan Mar 22, 2007

Yay CSS Speech Bubbles! =P

By the way, are you using a plugin for author comments, or did you manipulate the comments file?

Melissa Mar 22, 2007

@Jordan: Yeah, I’m so glad I found these! :D I may keep messing with them for a while, not sure if I’m fully satisfied with the way they look at this point. And I manipulated the comments file itself this way:

After this line:
< ?php foreach ($comments as $comment) : ?>

I added this:
< ?php
$isByAuthor = false;
if($comment->comment_author_email == ‘AUTHOREMAIL’) {
$isByAuthor = true;
}
?>

Then added this to the beginning of each comment div:

...class="bubble-< ?php if($isByAuthor == true ) { echo '2';}?>< ?php if($isByAuthor == false ) { echo '1';}?>…

So in my CSS I have bubble-1 for everyone’s comments and bubble-2 for mine. Change the variable in the “echo” part of the above code to fit your CSS. Also don’t forget to change “AUTHOREMAIL” to the email you use to login to Wordpress.

I think I found this on the Wordpress site itself, I’d have to check! :D

Jordan Mar 22, 2007

Thanks, you’re a doll!

Melissa Mar 23, 2007

@Jordan: No problemo! ^_^

Vitor Mar 23, 2007

Rodrigo Santoro é o que há! ;) Delícia! :rainbow:

Arien Mar 23, 2007

Melissa Mar 25, 2007

@Vitor: I sorta understood what you said…but um..not really, sorry!

@Arien: Hahahaha!! XD They ARE!
