Sims 3: Better Than Ever

March 25th, 2008
The Sims 3

The informational website for the upcoming Sims 3 is such a tease! The game won't be released until 2009, but it seems like it will be very well worth the wait.

The customization has pretty much quadrupled in features. You will be able to create super realistic Sims with an infinite amount of unique attributes from facial features, to body weight (muscle or fat), to the tiniest details about their personalities.

Instead of just picking a star sign like the other Sims games, you actually choose characteristics like: brave, romantic, kleptomaniac, and more! Crazy, isn't it?

The Sims 3: A realistic house!

House customization is insane as well. Natural lighting (squee!) will illuminate the furniture you have carefully chosen and matched together from unlimited choices in colors and patterns.

Probably one of the coolest features announced was the seamless neighborhood, meaning no more loading screens from house to house! You can zoom in and out of houses you play to view the entire neighborhood. Your Sims need only to walk down the sidewalk to reach a new lot!

One thing I'm curious about is how much of a load that's going to be on my computer. By 2009 I should be able to afford a nice desktop, so I'm not all that worried but it still can't a great thing if you have a large neighborhood.

Will your computer have to constantly update the details of other Sims lives while you're only playing one house? I'm going to give the developers the benefit of the doubt and hope that the new engine designed for the intensive gameplay will be efficient enough and not resource-heavy.

I am a diehard Sims fan, I admit it. I even have a Sims 2 gaming page to showcase some of my created Sims and my legacy families. I think what draws me to the Sims series so much is that I can build things quite freely. I love creating houses and after I discovered the Legacy Challenge it made it 100% more fun to play.

I honestly can't wait for Sims 3 to come out! It will be revolutionary, in my opinion, because it represents part of a whole new generation of intense games with realistic graphics and super smart AI! Here's to technology keeping us entertained! :D

OMG, I can’t wait! I own all the Sims 2 expansions and most of the Sims 1 expansions, and I’ll probably own a lot of Sims 3 stuff, too! What I would love is to have “roles” for Sims that other Sims adhered to, so I could, for example, make someone a queen and have others serve her and admire her, and another person could be a vampire and everyone would be scared of or in awe of the vampire, etc.

I like the more customizable Create-A-Sim, and I’m glad we won’t just have ‘fit’ or ‘fat’ to choose from. :P

I have all the Sims 2 games & expansions. If I go after the Sims 3 I think my parents will try & murder me, lol. Since they are the ones having to pay for them, you will have to tell me all about it, Melissa. They gripe every time they buy me something now, lol. So when you get Sims 3 please post lots of photos.

Hev Mar 25, 2008

I will check it out though. But it will depend on the requirements and what load it is going to eat up on my system. Sims 2 takes up so much & I sacrifice so much now to be able to play the game. No PhotoShop *wah*, no hardware storage, plus more just so my poor gamming laptop can have all the space it needs to run all the games, expansion packs, & all my 8000 downloads for the sims games (I am a download whore *to quote Decorgal*), lol.

Wow, The Sims 3 looks awesome! I should have a new computer by the time it comes out, so hopefully I’ll be able to play it. I have the first Sims, but the second wouldn’t work on my desktop, so I’ve never been able to play that one.

Lene Mar 25, 2008

Wow, it does looks amazing! The Sims is one of the two games that I tolerate (hmm yes, two) and it seems like it will keep it’s spot in my heart with this new version ;)

I am really looking forward to that! But, I really can’t wait for Spore in September!!

Sarah Mar 26, 2008

I’m so excited! But I don’t know if I’m going to get it. It may be a bit too different.

Louise Mar 26, 2008

Arg! I was trying my hardest trying to avoid interest in The Sims 3 - It couldn’t get better than The Sims 2, but no! It did! The new features have really surprised me!

The one thing I worry about…
I don’t know if you played Roller Coaster Tycoon at all…
But if you did, you know that 1 and 2 were fairly similar with 2 being… “just better” than one. No gameplay changes or anything. RCT 3 however completely changed. The objectives were though the same, just different, the gameplay was different, and it just wasn’t fun.

I worry that the sims 3 is so different that it isn’t “the sims” anymore.”
I’m beginning to feel with the sims 2 (I have all the expansion packs save 2 stuff packs) has SO MUCH going on that some of the features just aren’t “the sims”. But not quite, the sims 2 is great and I really love hobbies/interests. But if they change things too much, it just won’t be the same.

I have faith in EA though… so I’m sure it will be great.

Rose Mar 27, 2008

I love the sims <3 <3 <3

I don’t have a computer powerful enough to play it, so I sold all my games, but… ooo… excitement anyway :D

Nanda Mar 27, 2008

I seriously can’t wait for TS3 to come out. If it’s even better than TS2 I’m happy. :D I only have one problem though. I bought myself a new laptop a few months ago and I can play TS2 on it but I hope I’ll be able to play TS3 on it as well… I’m not planning to buy a new laptop just so I can play that game. X_X

Melissa Mar 27, 2008

What I would love is to have “roles” for Sims that other Sims adhered to…

Omg! That’s an awesome idea, Sarah! But you know, Sims 3 is going to revolutionize itself with AI personalities…so maybe there might have something similar to that! I’m sure we’ll learn more in the upcoming months.

But, I really can’t wait for Spore in September!!

Would you believe that I was going to talk about Spore in this entry too?! I just ended up writing a book about Sims 3 so I decided to wait until another entry! :D I can’t wait either!!!

I worry that the sims 3 is so different that it isn’t “the sims” anymore.”

I do play RTC3 (see my gaming page!) but I actually liked it more than RTC2! Maybe because the parks were a bit more flexible to create, I dunno. But I really don’t think that Sims 3 will differ extremely from Sims 2. From what I understand, they’re going to make it so you’re micromanaging less (meaning less often they will have to fulfill needs) and more of completing their aspirations and goals. Sounds awesome to me. :) But I guess we’ll see, right?

…so I sold all my games…

*dies*

I’m not planning to buy a new laptop just so I can play that game. X_X

Oooh, me neither. I hope to gawd that they don’t require it to have the highest version of DirectX or Vista. That would keep a lot of fans from playing. :(

Louise Mar 27, 2008

Mar has a good point. I don’t want to see The Sims 3 transformed like Sim City 4.

But I really love the fact that they’re actually making it so we can customise anything! Even meshes! (I hope)

Morgan Mar 28, 2008

Don’t ask me where I’ve been hanging around lately, because I must have been on Mars or something. I had no idea there was a Sims 3 in the making! And now I’m so UBERLY EXCITED. The game looks awesome, especially the walking around freely around neighbourhoods excites me beyond every limit! And total customisation? I already thought The Sims 2 was quite the game, with many options to choose from when building and decorating houses. But if the Sims 3 claims to be even more customisable, then I’m all for it. Zoinks, I can’t even wait! WHY another year? WHY? :D

Lisa Mar 28, 2008

I cannot wait, I want it so bad! It’s just.. I don’t have time to play anymore! If they release it before summer I’ll be able to play during my summer break though :)
And come to think of it, I’ll have graduatet in 2010 so then when I start working I will be able to go home after work, not do homework, but play the sims! yay! (I will be such a nerd, lol)

Yos Mar 29, 2008

Gee… I’m worried too, Sims 2 already made my computer really slow,
I think Sims 3 is never going to be installed -_- unless I buy a new compie that is :D

It seems amazing though, Sims rocks.
