Tyra vs. WoW

January 29th, 2007

Hmm…I’m trying to think of something to write that isn’t WoW-related. Toughie. :P

‘m sitting in that boring class that I wrote a post about last Monday. It’s super boring. This woman is just way too into the psychology-side of this subject. So boring. And its obvious that she keeps forgetting this is a Digital Media class and not some psychology seminar. I mean, I understand the importance of web/graphic/media designers knowing their audience and designing things with your user in mind…but come on. This is too intense in my opinion. :dead: But then again that’s just me.

Ok, what the hell I’ll talk about WoW a little bit. :D Hehe…I can’t help it! :P

Today on our forum, one of my guildies linked this interesting article about a couple that was on the Tyra Banks show because of a WoW addiction. Let me just say…it was hilarious. And sad. And stupid. It was hilarious because the guy (named Shawn) pulled off a sneaky joke that only MMO players would understand. Sad because Tyra and her psychiatrist visitor guy analyzed poor Shawn right down to reasoning that he was afraid of being a dad and a loser for playing a game. Finally, it was stupid because they never took the time to actually look into why the game is so addictive or even ways that the couple could mend things instead of Shawn just quitting cold turkey.

Here is a segment from the article:

Bored of analog life, a passive wife, and uninterested in their premarital newb baby, Shawn has taken up a 40-hour World of Warcraft habit instead of embracing the harder and less entertaining quests of young parenthood. The first video segment tells the tale of a bored fiance looking at the back of his head, baby crying in her lap every night, sleeping on her own as he passes out at 2 AM on the sofa daily. So what does this woman decide to do to salvage their relationship? Does she take steps to help him with his addiction, save their engagement, and ensure a better life for their child? Does she put her foot down and get the hell out of there so he can realize the errors of his ways?

Here is the full article with the entire segment from the Tyra Show: http://tinyurl.com/2jpv2y :bouncy:

And here is what I responded about it on the forum:

LOL. The Tyra show is one of the only shows I get on my useless 5 channels of TV. I know…I need to lern2antenna. But I’ve always had a lil bit of respect for Tyra, just because most of her shows aren’t so bad.

This one ruins it for me. Because obviously they didn’t (just like the article said) take much time into really delving into the problem the guy has. I think we all, being WoW-addicts (muahaha), know what the real deal is and it has nothing to do with the guy being afraid of being a father or whatever. WoW is just too sociable and is much more than some random game. Just like the article author said…the couple needs to work on communication skills and figure out some way to make things work.

I lol’ed at the shredding of the CDs…lol’d quite much. XD How much do you wanna bet that the guy told all his guildies in advance that he’d be on the show so they could join in on the hilarity… XD I certainly would…

This guy needs to realize that he never should have had a child irl in the first place. Scourch, Turtlion, and I (Danounhai in-game) solved the problem of having children in w.o.w! Whenever we have thoughts of rearing children, we simply create a character named Scourchlion. Thus, we can have all of the fun of ‘leveling up’ a baby and, if we get tired of it, simply delete it! It’s the best. Norly. Try it. IRL for the lose. Unless u have a rl… then maybe not…. >

LOL I just realized that, when I filled in ‘na’ on the website section, it took it as NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS! LOL! Oh, that’s the best…
