Summer Mashup

July 25th, 2008

Whew. It's been an interesting past few weeks. I've been a very busy bee and I still have a ton of things on my to do list! I'll lightly touch on a few updates right now and then make a list on subjects to blog more in depth about later. :) If I miss anything, or you want me to blog about something specific, just let me know! XD

  1. Portfolio: Yes! kirakoDesign is alive once more! I have refreshed it with a new design and updated a few projects. I'm still in the process of adding more examples, but it's looking really great so far! Check it out if you have time. :)
  2. Job Hunt: It's going ok! I've applied for a few so far, mostly through networking with my current company. I'm really hoping to find something close to what I'm doing now, which is web-related work. I've had an interview with a job placement company that has a possibility for me, but we'll see.
  3. Wedding: Nothing to update here yet, hehe. We probably won't get to planning anything until the end of the year (the date will be late next year probably), although I do have a few people in mind for the wedding party at least. ;)
  4. Quilting Bee: I've taken on a new staff position at the Quilting Bee: Programmer Bee! I'll be helping out with any coding the club's website requires that is requested of me by the other programmers. I'm also working heavily on two big side-projects of the Q*Bee: Lean Bee (health blog) and Daily Bee (news blog).
  5. Movies: Saw a bunch of great ones. This year seems to rock for summer movies!
    • Wanted had some pretty cool effects and interesting action, but it was too predictable for me. I figured everything out and it was sort of forgettable.
    • Wall-E was awesome, the animation and message were great. It's cool how a movie with such a small script could be so good! So cute and funny.
    • Hancock was ok, the story could have been much better. It felt choppy and not filled in enough, an extra 20 minutes would have upped it's rating in my opinion. Charlize Theron was as hot as always though. ;)
    • The Dark Knight was truly amazing. Heather Ledger pwned as the Joker, truly creepy! If they don't award an Oscar to him or something then I will be shocked. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat, which is saying a lot because I normally can figure out a plot easily. Fantastic!

After my projects for the Q*Bee are finished up, I can get started on revamping my website again. Probably not with a new theme, although I will probably touch up things here and there, but the code needs some real optimization.

I'm always open to suggestions for this place, especially in the realm of content. If you know of anything you'd like to see more of, just let me know! :D

Congrats on the finishing of your portfolio and the new position in the Q*Bee. I might think of rejoining the Q*Bee. Just need a new layout idea for it :|

I agree with you on Wall-E. There was like no script other than the humans and saying “Wall-E”. It was cute as well :P

I love reading your tutorials, hacks and ideas for WP. Or some cool effects you can do in Photoshop. ;)

I agree with you on both Dark Knight and Wall-E… since that’s all I’ve seen so far this summer! XD

Good luck with the job hunt, and the portfolio is amazing! You are awesome as always!

Please call me stupid, but don’t you have to be alive to win an oscar lol.
Probably not, but that’s me stuck in my imagination lol :)

Melissa Jul 26, 2008

Thanks for the support, you all!

…don’t you have to be alive to win an oscar…

Nope! Heath would actually be the second person in history to receive an Oscar after passing away. I heard that on the radio at least, I forgot who the first person was hehe! You’re not stupid, I didn’t know it could happen either. ;)

Every time I see The Dark Knight commercials, I always forget it has to do with Batman. I’d like to see it, though, it sounds interesting!

Taversia Jul 27, 2008

:goodie: YAY! And I completely agree about the Dark Knight. Ohmygod. Was it ever amazing. :ohyeah:

I wanted to see Wanted, but never got around to it. Dark Knight was good, but I liked Iron Man better ;) Wall-E was the best of all! <3

I really really really so terribly love your portfolio design. It is made of awesome! I think I might go watch Dark Knight next week!

Nanda Jul 30, 2008

The design site looks great!!! :D Looks very professional and unique! :D I’ve been wanting to see Wanted for months =) Seems like a cool movie and James McAvoy is in it — he’s one of my favourite actors. :-) The Dark Knight seems like a really really good movie and I cannot wait to see it (although I’ll probably end up watching it when it’s released on DVD :(). Good luck with finding a job AND planning the wedding. =)

I haven’t seen The Dark Knight, but I would also be surprised if Heath Ledger wasn’t awarded some kind of posthumous award at the Oscars. :)
