WoW Leveling Tips

What justifies me in writing a leveling guide? Well, no proof from 1 to 60, as it took me about 4 months or so to get there, mostly because I was exploring the world of Azeroth. Hey, leave me alone, WoW was my first MMO! :P

The true evidence of my leveling prowess is the fact that I have played the game since it first came out in 2004, know pretty much all the quests in every area and have created alts of every class and race. I also was able to level my 60 Huntress main to 70 in exactly one week after the Burning Crusade came out.

Now, mind you, this does not make me super cool and I don't think I'm better than anyone because of these things. I am just an avid WoW gamer and love every aspect of the game itself. Being the highest level in the game isn't as important as enjoying the content on the way up. So make sure you take the time to do that! Why would you get a game if not to experience its greatness? :D

Suggested Mods:

Cartographer - Map mod! Takes away the "fog" so you can see every area on the world map. Gives you instance maps and notes to where the bosses are and what loot they drop. Can also be used to send map notes with coordinates to where mobs are, etc.

FuBar_QuestsFu - This is a plugin for FuBar, which is a versatile information bar that displays info from whatever plugins you install with it. QuestsFu allows you to "pop out" a minion (a little frame) that displays all of your quests on your screen. This minimizes the time you spend flipping back and forth to your default quest log and allows you to see quest objectives more easily.

FuBar_FuXPFu - Another FuBar mod that I suggest. If you click the link, you can see how it attaches the XP bar, in a way, to the bottom of FuBar and gives you a text display on the bar as well as an XP-To-Go display. Great for when you're really counting the numbers.

ArkInventory - This mod will help you organize your bags and keep track of empty slots. It is important to have something like this to help you manage your space so when you are on a long quest run you won't have to back track to a vendor so much. This mod also allows you to see what is in your bank, even when you are not at the bank (just to view the items).

MrPlow - In addition to a bag mod, this mod will help keep your bags and bank bags organized by automatically making and combining stacks of items to help give you more space.

Bartender3 - A bar mod to allow you to move around Blizzard's default action bars. You can have several bars present on your screen to view all of your spells as well as make the bag and menu bars invisible. I suggest this only to be able to see all of your most used spells at all times, you never know when you may need something.

Come, young padawan, you will now embark with me upon a journey to enlightenment. This guide applies to characters of any level...whether it be level 1 or level 60. Let us start at the beginning. You have logged in. You are standing in a city or town. Ok, now what?

1 Pwn Lesson #1: Get Ready!
Empty your bags and repair your gear.
  • Vendor, auction or bank everything you don't need or want. Extra munnies in the pocket is always good, hehe!
  • If you find you are a packrat (like me!) and love to keep things, then make a mule character. A mule is your "bank" character, who you can send all the random stuff to that won't fit in your own bank or bags. Make one and run it to the nearest large city. Then, while you are out questing and fill up your bags you can mail all the good stuff (greens, gathered items, etc) to your bank character who can keep them safe for you or auction them off.
  • I've saved loads of time by having other characters do my auctioning for me. Saves lots of trips, especially when you are 60+ in the Outland, where there is no AH.

1 Pwn Lesson #2: Be Prepared!
Remember food, water, potions, bandages, etc.
  • There's nothing that shortens up a good leveling grind then running out of the necessities.
  • Make sure you have at least one full stack of everything you need.
  • Ask a mage to make you food and water if you can get a hold of one.

1 Pwn Lesson #3: Gather Quests!
Get as many quests as you can.
  • Ok, duh, right? No really...go to whatever area is next for your level (meaning the mob levels are yellow color at least) and grab as MANY quests as you can from the main town. Not just one or two...ALL the quests. Fill up that log, dawg. *cackles*
  • Bad puns aside, for easy quest log viewing, I suggest you get a mod, see the above suggestions for the one I use.
  • I recommend that you focus on one area at a time, to maximize efficiency, so when you've exhausted all the quests in one place you can move to the next easily without loose ties.

1 Pwn Lesson #4: Look Up Your Quests!
Get all the coordinates to your quests and make notes on your map!
  • Open up your Internet browser and either go to ThottBott, Allakhazam or WoWHead and look up all the coordinates for your quests. I normally do this by typing in the quest title name
    into the sites' search box.
  • The results you get will usually tell you the coordinates of what you are looking for, be it a certain mob, NPC or area you need to go.
  • This is where Cartographer comes in handy. Once you have the coordinates to the first quest on your list, switch back to WoW and make a map note at the location the website gave you.
  • Do this for ALL of your quests in that area. Fill that map up with notes!

1 Pwn Lesson #5: Do the Cakewalk!
Start with your nearest map note, then keep going!
  • Make a circle and jump from one note to the next, doing all the quests from area to area.
  • Many people make the mistake of going by the way the quests are listed in the quest log. The most efficient way I've found is to just go by location.
  • It's even better when you have more than one quest in one place. Need to kill those raptors for a kill quest as well as gather their hides for a gather quest? Finish both at once!

1 Pwn Lesson #6: 'Til the Cows Come Home!
Don't turn in any of your quests until you have the majority of them DONE!
  • This is probably the most important tip I can give you.
  • So much time is wasted if you do one quest at a time and turn them in one by one. Do them ALL!
  • You will get a huge chunk of XP when you turn them all in at the end, which will boost your ego I'd say. :D

1 Pwn Lesson #7: Rinse & Repeat!
Keep working through the pattern in the steps above!
  • Meaning start by preparing yourself for the grind, getting all the necessities, gathering your quests, looking up their coordinates, finishing all the quests and then turning them all in at once.
  • I guarantee you will be leveling faster than you know it and the XP will come rolling in by the buckets! :D

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me. I am always available to help you with this stuff or clarify some things if any of my explanations seem confusing. Let me know! :D

Happy hunting in Azeroth! If you think I should add anything to this guide, comment below! :D

Very nice guide! I like that is explains the basic way you should go about doing quests and all without taking out the fun of still getting to experiment and explore. Most of the other leveling guides sound like this:

Go to point A. Then Point B. Now Point C and back to A!

I love WoW, but I haven’t gotten a chance to play it recently. My freinds are playing a different free MMO, and I’m broke, so to play with them and save money, I am playing it. But I will be back! It would be fun to play with you! What server are you on? I’m currently on Altar of Storms with my brother.

Thanks, Vira! :D I really do need to revise it, as it’s almost a year old, hehe.

What server are you on? I’m currently on Altar of Storms with my brother.

I’m on Gilneas! That’s my main server. My boyfriend Chaz just transferred to Steamwheedle Cartel to a high raiding guild, so I’m considering transferring one of mine over there to hang with him. :)

I’ll go comment on your site now to let you know where I play! :D
