Go Computer GO!
March 30th, 2004
Just got done registering for summer classes! Well, I'm only in one, hehe.
It's Intro to Computer Graphics and its a web-based course! Meaning I don't have to go to any classroom...all work is given and submitted online. This rocks for me because I need to get job hours in to be able to pay for my apartment.
Good times!
Does anybody out there read Wired News? Well one of their latest articles on microprocessor speeds talks about how there's not really a number for the speed of computer chips anymore since "a chip's clock speed is almost irrelevant in determining the overall performance of a computer." Meaning that the specs on a computer system can no longer say that the processor speed is like 30 or 60ghz and it be the truth. Meaning that if you really want a fast computer you're going to have to do mega research to get the one you want. AMD, IBM, Apple & Intel all sport their own naming systems for such chips, its no longer just one number...but there seems to be a future system in the think process that might come out with an overall standard for chip speed numbering.
This is definitely a good thing because if I ever decide to buy another computer or laptop I want to know the real specs on the system I'm purchasing...processor speed isn't the only reason I'd buy a computer, but it's one of the top reasons. 8)
