Go Computer GO!

March 30th, 2004
Just got done registering for summer classes! Well, I'm only in one, hehe. ;) It's Intro to Computer Graphics and its a web-based course! Meaning I don't have to go to any classroom...all work is given and submitted online. This rocks for me because I need to get job hours in to be able to pay for my apartment. :D Good times! Does anybody out there read Wired News? Well one of their latest articles on microprocessor speeds talks about how there's not really a number for the speed of computer chips anymore since "a chip's clock speed is almost irrelevant in determining the overall performance of a computer." Meaning that the specs on a computer system can no longer say that the processor speed is like 30 or 60ghz and it be the truth. Meaning that if you really want a fast computer you're going to have to do mega research to get the one you want. AMD, IBM, Apple & Intel all sport their own naming systems for such chips, its no longer just one number...but there seems to be a future system in the think process that might come out with an overall standard for chip speed numbering. This is definitely a good thing because if I ever decide to buy another computer or laptop I want to know the real specs on the system I'm purchasing...processor speed isn't the only reason I'd buy a computer, but it's one of the top reasons. 8)
