One hawt computer, plz.

August 21st, 2008

Continuing on my quest to get a new computer to replace my wheezing laptop, I have done a bunch of research lately, customized systems on different sites and have finally made two choices: It will be a PC...and I will build it myself!

After toiling for a bit over getting a Mac vs. a PC, I decided to stay with PC mostly because I'm a gamer. I don't want to buy all new Mac-version games and I'd rather not try to run my Windows games via an emulator or Apple's Boot Camp. Maybe I'll get a Mac at some point in the future but not anytime soon.

Allure by In Win

So Chaz said he would help me with the details, since he has built computers before. I already know what specs I want, of course, but he'll have to advise me on which brands to choose. We already have DVD/CD-RW drives, now I just need the rest. Cake, right? XD

My first purchase may very well be this drool-worthy case by In Win: the Allure. :goodie: Quite girly, I know. If the sparklies end up being too much for me my second choice is the Alpha360, which is from the same series.

Neither are "full" towers, but rather compact and small. It means I'll have to make sure the components I buy will fit in there, hehe, but I'm not too worried unless a component that I really want is too big. :( Hopefully I won't run into that problem, I think it should be ok though.

I'll probably make a running list of things I want as a separate page on here and check things off as I get them. :) I'm really excited, hopefully I'll save some money too. :D

Wow, that’s a cool design. :cheer: Good luck with the new PC.

Ooh those cases are very elegant. Mine is a full tower deluxe case, bought last year. I wanted something silver colored.

Self chosen components are the best :-) That’s how I chose mine, although I got it built by the selling company. No need to run the risk of making glaring mistakes.

Have fun, and good luck! :D

O M G! That case is GORGEOUS! I want to snuggle with it and have it’s babies!

Sarah Aug 22, 2008

That case is gorgeous. :D

I’m gonna need a new computer in a little while too, I don’t think my current will be able to handle the sims 3… :p btw. did you see the release date is in february 2009? I can’t wait! :ohyeah:
anywayyy, I LOVE THAT CASE!!! I think I’m gonna have to get it for my new computer. I would like to build my next computer, have no idea how to, but my dad is a computer guy, so he can hopefully help me a bit :)

That case looks beautiful. But isn’t it a bit small? It doesn’t look like a lot of computer parts fit in there. XD

Anyway, good luck with building your own PC! My dad/brother always build new computer parts into my PC and I bought a new laptop last year but right now I really want to have a Macbook… Wish I had the money, though!

Wow, I never knew a computer could look that good :D

Noellium Aug 23, 2008

Wow, that’s cool, especially that you plan to build your own! :D (I’ve never built a computer before, but I have helped my mom, who’s like the IT technician in our family. :B) I hope you enjoy your new computer! :goodie:

(And wow, I didn’t know they made towers that small. O_o)

Dun dun dun… THE GLAM CUBE!!

Rikka Aug 23, 2008

Wow, that PC case looks lovely. I’m glad you were finally able to make your decision. The same thing happened to me, we had decided to buy a desktop computer since our laptop started turning off by itself.

Melissa Aug 23, 2008

And wow, I didn’t know they made towers that small. O_o

They actually make them even smaller, even box-shaped! :D Check out these babies called MicroATX desktops! Micro for sure. ;)

Chelsea Aug 24, 2008

Wow, I love how the woman on the site is kissing the case… They must have a real bond ;)

Arwen Aug 24, 2008

Yay for PC! I definitely like the pink flowery sparkly case.

Kim Aug 24, 2008

You’ll definitely save some money building it yourself! I love that case too.. your new PC is going to be awesome :)

Word of advice though, and I’m sure Chaz has got this covered, but just in case- we built our own PC a few years ago with the help of a friend, and some of the components weren’t compatible (which or friend should have known being that he fixed PCs for a living, haha). We went through 3 hard drives before we figured out what was wrong! Just something to remember.

Pretty, that matches the bedding that I just purchased in those colours to. I’d so purchase something like that but I just spent a lot of $$ two years ago upgrading my computer to black and glowing lights in the tower..

Good Luck

Like everybody else, I think that case is gorgeous. Although nothing, even that pretty, would tear me away from my notebook that I’ve customized myself to look… girly grungy? I think that’s the best way to describe it!

Lovely case :) Do you already have a motherboard or are you buying that as well? Just double check it will fit your case - I glanced over the specs on the Allure case, and it says “M/B: mATX” in there - meaning only a micro ATX sized motherboard will fit. Motherboards come in different sizes, just like cases. :)

Melissa Sep 04, 2008

Oh yes, I am aware. :) I actually just purchased the motherboard today, this BioStar board from NewEgg. :D
