Toygers & Addons!

April 3rd, 2007
Toyger Kitties!

Someone started a thread on Snark about this adorable breed of cats called Toygers! I am positively in love with them! Why? Because tigers are my favorite animal and cats are my favorite pet! So it is only natural for me to be enthralled by the possibility of having a combination of both for the ultimate pet! :D Aren't they adorable?

Toygers are a glittered new designer breed of domestic cat, reminiscent of a toy tiger. ~ Toygers.org

Someday I will have one of these sweet little animals for my very own! :D I will have to keep an eye on where the breeders are located.

I've also been meaning to mention a few of my favorite Firefox Addons for a while. There are certain ones I've found recently that are just simply amazing and I have no clue as to how my browsing experience existed before I installed them, hehe! So here we go!

Adblock Plus - A wonderful little goodie that blocks pretty much all of the ads on any website that you view. I'm serious! It will block everything! Meaning if there's an ad banner at the top of a website, all you'll see is just an extra line of space. And what's even better is that you can pick and choose which sites you wish to allow ads on. There is also a handy option in the right-click menu where you can block an ad automatically. A must-have.

ColorZilla - Allows you to grab colors from any web page to find its hex number! It works just like an eyedropper tool from an imaging program (like Photoshop). Awesome for getting that perfect color for a layout design. Some good color sites I suggest are: Kuler, ColorMatch and Color Scheme Generator.

Download Statusbar

Download Statusbar - Ok this addon just rocks my socks. :P Before, when I downloaded things it would pop up that sometimes annoying downloads window that I'd have to minimize or close (even with the sidebar plugin, it bugged me). This addon takes all of those silly windows and turns them into a sleek status bar on the bottom of your browser that won't distract you. The bars will stack horizontally depending on how many downloads you have going and there are several options to customize as well. Could be my all around favorite right now!

HTML Validator - Validating is the new pink, so get with the trend, yo! :D Hehe, but seriously, this is the best validator plugin I've found! What's great about the newest version is that you can have it run both the HTML and XHTML validators within the same source code page! This will definitely reduce the amount of time you spend trolling the W3C website. :P

Tiny Menu & UI Tweaker - These two go hand in hand for me, because they both help optimize and customize Firefox for a better browsing experience. Tiny Menu will collapse and replace your entire (or just what you choose) standard menu bar with a drop down menu. You can even substitute the icon or word for the menu on your bar! And UI Tweaks allows you to change little things about the browser, like removing and/or combining buttons. Both great space savers for toolbar freaks like me! I love my toolbars. :)

Web Developer - Honestly one of the best addons out there. It adds a toolbar to your browser with tons of options to help optimize your website! Have you ever wanted to see what your site looks like naked? Or just why that div layer won't sit right? Or find broken images in your site? Those are just a few of the tons of available features this addon has to offer. Check it out for yourself! :D

Oh yes and very exciting, my dad was quoted in the online version of Time Magazine! Yay! :D The article was talking about a specific event that happened a few months ago between the Iran and American/Iraqi armies that were patrolling the border of Iraq and Iran. The part that mentions my dad is the magazine's discussion of what is going on right now to protect that part of the border after what happened:

Dad in Iraq

In the months after the incident, U.S. forces have kept up joint patrols on the Iran-Iraq border, where their movements are closely monitored by Iranian outposts. Increasingly, however, U.S. troops stationed in Diyala Province are moving to help counter-insurgency efforts in the Baqubah area, leaving a thinner American presence at the border.

"On some days," says Lt. Col. Ronald Ward, the U.S. commander tasked with helping Iraqi units maintain border security in the area, "no U.S. troops appear there at all."

A simple quote, but yay for my dad! I'm so proud of him. :) What is great to realize is that what he is doing over there really is worthwhile.

Just two more things to say...House is the sexiest doctor on television and Sanjaya better get flippin' voted off this week. No more mohawks, kthxbai. :D Have a great Tuesday, everyone!

a. House is awesome, and We need to make that facebook group bigger =(

b. you can tell that what we’re doing in iraq is worthwhile just because democrats want to get out of there and stop doing it, but thanks to yer dad for doing the work that all of us over here bitch about and argue about but never have any part in. oh, and save britain’s soldiers!

c. Yeah, my WoW subscription is about to run out. I’m not renewing. I’ve been playing Guild Wars a lot, and I’m still in my old, awesome international guild Apocalyptic Riders. It’s fun, and it doesn’t take up so much damned time, so meh. Won’t be seeing me on WoW.

d. House is awesome.

e. that is all. have a good night. i am off to see 300 yet again.

Melissa Apr 03, 2007

a. Yes it is and yes we do. :P

b. Yeah, it would be interesting to have everyone experience what it is that is going on over there…maybe more people would understand.

c. Lol, Hugo is paying for mine now. XD I haven’t played since….January? Quite a while. I may return in the summer when I have more time. Good luck in Guild Wars! I never could get hooked on that game back when it came out. =/

d. Yes…yes he is. :D

e. LOL, have fun. XD

Tish Apr 03, 2007

I am so getting a Toyger! It would be even better if they bred a cat to look like a lion. Then I could have a tiger and a lion. But they’re just so cute!
Ahh, I love FF addons. I collect them. I download them and then forget about them. I’m constantly stumbling over them and thinking “when did I get that?”. My ultimate favourite is definitely the Web Developer toolbar. It helps me fix 99% of CSS problems with it’s “outline” feature. Haha :P
Wow, people who go to fight are so brave. I know I wouldn’t do it (despite my patriotism). Kudos to your Dad for being a brave man :star:

Melissa Apr 03, 2007

@Tish: Ooooh, a kitty lion! That would be SO cute! With a little fluffy mane! XD Lol, I forget some of my addons too, hehe! I need to shave them down. XD And thanks about my dad…they definitely are brave. :)

Bubs Apr 03, 2007

Sanjaya sucks, but I have a feeling it will be Phil :(

I really want a pet Bobcat and I read not long ago that there are domesticated bobcats! Reminds me of the toygers ;)

Congrats for your dad!

Arien Apr 04, 2007

LMAO! House is so freaking smexie, he can make me feel like crap anyday! Yeah buddy!

Those cats are so CUTE! I have to have one!!

That’s awesome about your dad. A claim to fame is always a big plus, ;)

Ben Apr 04, 2007

Hey there! Thanks for the links to the firefox addons, I just downloaded the status bar plugin, because that download pop-up really frustrates me!
I also decided to join in on NakedDay following your link to the Naked Day post! :) I even downloaded a wordpress plugin which does it automatically for me lmao.

And gratz your dad! Its nice to be recognised for doing some good for your country!

Melissa Apr 04, 2007

@Bubs: Aw but Phil was SO GOOD last night!!! :( I loved his vocals I can’t believe they all said he wasn’t good! Sanjaya just seriously needs to go what is WRONG with America!?! :P And omg, domesticated bobcats, that would be soooo funny to have one and invite an unsuspecting visitor over! XD XD

@Arien: SMEXIE!! ROFL!! Haha, but yes yes he is! XD

@Ben: Glad those links were useful to you! ^_^ And wooohooo about Naked Day! I added you to my sidebar, it’s going to be awesome! :D

Ashley Apr 04, 2007

Oh my gosh!! *huggles those kitties!* Those toygers are so precious! *kisses them all over!* I hope my cat Pouncy doesn’t read this comment, or else she’ll get jealous!

That’s so cool your dad was mentioned in that article!! :) I’m proud too!! :star:

House is scary, but sexy. :D *giggles!* Oh, and don’t even get me started on Sanjaya. :P I don’t really like Tony Bennett too much, so I was kind of bored last night during the performances. He betterm better, BETTER go home (Sanjya that is, not Tony…)

Lexi Apr 04, 2007

I always forget about House, I like the show but it’s not one of my favorites like Jericho and Bones. :D

I think you’d like this program:
http://www.nattyware.com/pixie.html

It’s like the Firefox add-on Colorzilla but stand alone so you can get colors anywhere. I know I’ve had icons from programs where I wanted the exact color and it works perfectly. :)

Woo! That is really awesome about your Dad. :)

Melissa Apr 04, 2007

@Ashley: Yay kitties! :D Hehe don’t worry, I won’t tell Pouncy! XD Yeah the songs really weren’t all to awesome last night, hoping for better ones next week. :P ARG Sanjaya MUST go tonight!! HE MUST! :P

@Lexi: Bones is a great show! :D And I always meant to watch Jericho but I keep forgetting about it. XD Oh that is a cool program! I’ll definitely try that out, thanks for linking it! ^_^

sarah beth Apr 04, 2007

I want one!!! Super cute!! Expensive?

Melissa Apr 04, 2007

Hey my dear! :D I have no clue if they are expensive but I can probably predict they are. :(

Kim Apr 04, 2007

Those cats are awesome! I bet they’re super expensive. My old roomate is OBSESSED with tigers… her whole room was tiger themed and she even had a tiger cub tattoo. LoL. I just sent her the link to that website. I bet she’ll own a million of those in the next few years.

That’s exciting that your dad was quoted in Time Magazine :)

Caitlin Apr 04, 2007

Oh my goodness. Those cats are SO awesome! I must have one one day. Holy crap, I can’t stand the cuteness! I think my cat is jealous.

I use most of the same plugins for FireFox as you. I just adore FireFox. I will need to check out those other ones that I don’t have. I’m sure if you use them, they’re good. :)

That’s cool your dad was quoted! You should be proud of him.

cole Apr 04, 2007

I use both adblock plus and colorzilla. I’m still getting used to the former but the latter is a godsend. I especially love the way it shows you what part of the document you’re view (ie p, b, em, div, html, etc)

Jessica Apr 04, 2007

O my gosh those kitties are so cute! It’s fun just saying the name Toyger. Denny and I are eventually going to get a cat but don’t have any breed in mind… so maybe this could be a future option. Ah, little tigers running around the home. I’d look forward to coming home to that every day.

That’s really great about your dad. Simple quote yes, but he was still added which is the main picture.

Melissa Apr 04, 2007

@Kim: Yeah I bet they’re expensive to, hehe! Oh my, that is a LOT of tiger stuff! XD Tigers are gorgeous animals though, so I relate to her, haha!

@Caitlin: Lol, I can hardly stand the cuteness either! XD Yeah definitely check those addons out, I totally *heart* all of them! ^_^

@Cole: I agree, I love that about the addon too! :D

@Jessica: Yeah! The name is even cute, hehe! Like a plushie! ^_^ I’d totally love to come home to little tigers too! Yay! Thanks about my dad. :)

Catzie Apr 04, 2007

These toygers are cute! And I’d prefer taking care of them instead of tigerrrs.. lol. I love cats, although I don’t own one.

Cool plugins.. I’mma try that Web Developer thing now..

Oh, you’re dad’s a commander? You should really be proud!

Jessica Apr 04, 2007

Those cats are adorable. I don’t want on though, although you prolly read that on the B*B*S*. :butterfly

That is cool about your dad. I am sure President Bush knows his name now. :D

Melissa Apr 04, 2007

@Catzie: Hehe yeah I would *love* to have one too! And aw, thanks about my dad!

@Jessica: Hehe, its all good! ^_^ And LOL it would be cool for him to get to meet important people…I’m sure my dad would be tickled to meet the president or anyone else high up for that matter. ^_^ Would be super cool!

Grace Apr 04, 2007

Oooo I WANT A TOYGER!! lol. So flipping cute! ^_^ YAY For your dad being quoted!!!! That’s awesome. How long has he been in Iran? Or has he come back yet?

Those addons for Firefox are awesome. I love my addons hehehe. You should get the one for music…Foxytunes it’s called. It’s awesome! There’s also FireFTP and ScribeFire. ScribeFire I believe is the one that lets you post to your blog from it. I can’t use it cause I use cutenews but meh lol.

Arien Apr 05, 2007

Yay for Naked Day!!!

Jhase Apr 05, 2007

Toyger? Its the oddest thing I’ve ever heard of, but they are so cute. I want one, I’m going to get me one. I’m going to get one for my best friends mother. Cause they have mucho cuteness in them. Oh and thank you for those plugins’ I should really start checking the update crap for Firefox, but I never do. Tis all good though.

Now I have to oggle the Toyger some more, cause they are cutealicious.

Melissa Apr 05, 2007

@Grace: Hehe, they are sooo cute! ^_^ I think he’s actually in Iraq specifically, but who knows really…I know he goes places. He’s been there since January. He’ll come back for my graduation in May and then leave again to go back to Iraq until next January. :( A very long time, but it’s for a good cause. :)

And I actually have FoxyTunes! ^_^ I do love it too! I have FireFTP as well, but I don’t find myself using it as much as I thought I would. And sweet about ScribeFire, I’ll totally check that out! ^_^

@Arien: OH YEAHHHH!!! :D

@Jhase: Yaaay! They really are cutealicious! XD Great word, haha! And woot about the plugins, definitely check them out! ^_^

Jordan Apr 05, 2007

If I didn’t find cats to be repulsive I might actually think that the Toygers were cute. Except.. Yeah, I don’t like cats.. at all. If you blogged about Pugs I might have something to better to say.

I got rid of a lot of the FF plugins I’ve been using. But the only ones I use on a daily basis are the developers toolbar, del.icio.us tagging, seo for firefox, firemint, dt whois, screengrab, searchstatus, and foxmarks. And these are the only ones I use. Ever! heh

Anne Apr 05, 2007

Oooh! Those cats are just about the most adorable little things ever. :D Too bad I’m allergic to anything feline or else I would have gotten myself one of those.

I especially adore the Download Manager and Web Developer. They’re very handy. I’m not using much of Firefox lately though. I’m trying to get the hang on Opera.

Jenn Apr 05, 2007

Those toygers are adorable! But my heart remains true to persian cats. I have one, and any other cat I get will most likely be a persian.

And congratulations to your dad for being quoted. That’s awesome!

Mall Apr 05, 2007

Aww, now that’s adorable! They look so cute and precious. I really do hope you’ll get one of them in the future.

Firefox add-ons save my life so many times. I don’t know how I can survive without it. I love them all.

Congratulation to your dad for being quoted in the Time magazine! You must be really proud of him. I would be too. :)

And I agree, House is definitely the sexiest doctor out there with the greatest sense of humor.

Ben Apr 06, 2007

Hey Melissa! I signed up to despair.nu the other day and guess who I got assigned to?!
You! :D Mehaha. :gb:

Melissa Apr 06, 2007

@Jordan: Lol! XD Hehe, you and your pugs…DARTH PUG! XD I’ll hafta search for some of the ones you listed…I’ve heard of a few of them but never got around to tryin ‘em out!

@Anne: Aww, that’s not fun to be allergic. :( I have no idea when I’ll be able to *ever* have one of these either so I sort of feel your pain! XD Oh Opera, do you think you’ll switch from FF? I have it just to test out what websites look in it…but I’ve never actually stayed with it. Hmm…

@Jenn: Persians are quite gorgeous! My childhood cat was part persian..they are so fluffy! XD Thanks about my dad! ^_^

@Mall: I hope I do too, that would be SO awesome! :D And I agree, Firefox is just seriously the best ever! ^_^ Aww, thank you about my dad, I definitely am proud of him. :) And ooooweeee, I *love* House! XD

@Ben: LOL, yeah I saw that in the Despair email! YAY! :D
