I just got an email from my sister Lisa, who is in college. She was letting me and my family know about something that happened at her university.
Apparently a student was arrested today after police found several knives and guns in his car and dorm room. They had received a tip from other students in his residence hall because they were concerned about some comments that the guy had made to them.
Thank god they came forward is my opinion. Who knows what might have happened if no one had said anything. I'm glad people are beginning to be more outspoken about their concerns and actually taking potential threats seriously. We don't need a repeat of Virginia Tech or any other school, which is an obvious statement, yes, but a true one.
More people need to be brave like that and tell someone if they are concerned about something they hear. Because people who make threats are rarely joking. It's interesting how there are signs that predict this kind of situation, but most of the time they are ignored. However, sometimes its difficult to pick out the "right" signs as true threats.
"It can also be tremendously hard to determine which distressed students are likely to pose true dangers, psychiatrists say. The known risk factors for suicide and homicide are largely similar. Warning signs include isolation, trauma, drug and alcohol use, a history of trauma or family violence, and a tendency to be impulsive. But the biggest warning sign is a history of committing violence in the past..." ~ The Boston Globe
I found some resources on school & youth violence that are good:

Please stay safe, everyone, especially those in schools and universities. The more aware you are of your surroundings, the less these things will happen. I feel like I keep stating the obvious, but I don't think you can say it all enough.
On a lighter note, I have a video clip of Cody and Oreo playing!
They are so cute together and it's so obvious that Cody is still a baby.
His pouncing and wrestling skills aren't that great!
I also uploaded more photos of him being cute, go check them out!
Hope everyone had a good Labor Day weekend. I spent it hanging out with Chaz, and friends, and playing video games, hehe!
Perfect way to spend my time, woot!

@Kenneth: Don’t worry, I will definitely be uploading more photos and stuff of the cats!
@Arien: AWWWW, I wish I could see all of them playing together!! Do you think they’d remember each other?
And yay I’m gonna try adding your feed again! I’ll call you soon.
@Mallory: Yeah I definitely see your point about that. That’s taking it way too far and extreme, for your roommate to do something like that. I don’t blame you for being angry about it. I’m not a big people person either and I had a similar kind of relationship (the no confrontation kind) with a roomie from a few years ago, so I definitely understand.
I guess to clarify, I wasn’t meaning to inspire people to report on every single little thing that bugs them about someone, because that’s lame…but to just take caution if something they see/hear just doesn’t sit well. I’m sure people make mistakes all the time, especially people like your roommate who do it for their own gain and not out of genuine concern, but it’s always good to stay cautious.
