Election Day 2004

November 2nd, 2004
I just voted an hour ago! I got up at 5 o'clock in the morning and rushed down to my polling place (a local library) in order to get in line. There were already about 10 people there queueing, so I set up a chair that I brought and started reading more of my book (Harry Potter #5). I was there for about an hour or so and the line behind me was getting tons longer when they finally opened the polls at 7am! :D
I Voted Today!
Something interesting happened though. As I went up to show one of the volunteers my ID to get my ballot I saw that they were giving out a white form and a yellow form, the yellow one being the Spanish translation. The woman who took my ID gave me a little piece of paper with a number on it and another person handed me the white version of the ballot. So I went over to one of the little voting stands and started marking my choices when I noticed that there was no second page listing the rest of the amendments that were supposed to be available for me to vote on. I went back to the table and asked if there was a second page, some other people followed me and said the same thing. The lady got all flustered and looked at me like I was stupid when I kept repeating that I was positive there was another page because all the amendments weren't listed like on my sample ballot I got in the mail. They got a couple other volunteers over there (and I think one of them was the guy in charge of the precinct) and started rifling through boxes looking for the other pages...they finally found them and they had to go around to everyone who had already been given ballots to give them the 2nd page if they had the white version...some people had been given the 2nd page in the yellow version by mistake...and others just didn't care, they gave the 2nd yellow page back to the guy. Just remembering all of it scrambles my brain, lol. :dead: But finally I was able to grab a copy of the 2nd page, finish voting, shoot my ballot papers through the little machine at the end and slap a I Voted Today sticker on my shirt as I went out the door. :D Ahh, voting in Florida is always fun. Whoooohooo! I hope there is a great turnout today...no matter who you want to win for President or any other office or what amendments you want passed be sure to GET OUT AND VOTE TODAY! Most people really don't know how much their votes count. They learn about the electoral college and think that even if they do vote for the candidate of their choice it might be all in vain. Not true...the popular vote does make a difference. Oohh, I'm so excited! The news is going to be on 24/7 when I get back home after class this morning. ROCK THE VOTE! :D

Very much agreed! Glad to hear you went out and had your vote counted, apathy is the worst disease of a democracy and I’m hoping this election will shock some people out of it.

Congratulations on being persistent and getting the amendment cheat sheet too, that takes some guts.
