On the Issues

October 6th, 2004
PresidentMatch.com is a website that allows you take a sort of "quiz" to see what presidential candidate you match up with the most depending on your opinions of the major issues debated in our nation. It told me that I was 52% for Bush and 47% for Kerry. That's pretty close. I am a professed Republican, and I am voting for Bush, just because I agree with more of that side's stance on things. Since in an earlier post I was questioned about what my positions are on everything I'll give ya an outline according to PM.com's list on the quiz. :) A red * symbol means the issue is more important to me than others. Abortion * Appoint Judges Who Will Outlaw Abortions - Strongly Favor Outlaw "Partial Birth" Abortions - Strongly Favor Outlaw Abortions Except for Rape/Incest - Strongly Oppose Parental Notification for Minors Under 18 - Strongly Favor I actually believe all types of abortion should be outlawed except for in the case of where the mother will die, such as in an ectopic pregnancy where the egg is trapped in an area other than the uterus and, if left to develop, the mother and child will both die. I strongly believe that at conception the fetus is a human being and has his/her own set of unalienable rights just like any other person. A fetus is not just another organ of the mother's body that can be taken out at any time. Do not fling the Roe vs. Wade argument at me because it won't work. This is a moral issue and I have always been strongly against it. Gay Rights Constitutional Gay Marriage Ban - Somewhat Favor Equal Rights for Civil Unions - Somewhat Opposes Allow Gays to Openly Serve in the Military - Somewhat Opposes This issue is against my moral and religious beliefs. I guess this statement might sound weird, but I am not against people who are homosexual...I just don't believe the lifestyle is right. You might say that since I'm against the lifestyle I'm against the person because that is who they are...but that is just what I believe. Do not attempt to debate me on this topic, I will not respond to you. Religion in Government Organized Prayer in Public Schools - Strongly Opposes Commandments Displayed in Federal Buildings - Somewhat Opposes Federal Funding of Religious Charities - Undecided Understand that I am a Christian, but I do not believe that religion should be forced on those of other belief systems...I don't believe that is the way to correctly spread the issues of religion. Gun Control * Safety Devices on All New Guns - Strongly Favor Background Checks on Gun Show Purchases - Strongly Favor Require Safety Course, License Before Gun Purchase - Strongly Favor Allow Lawsuits Against Gun Manufacturers - Undecided Death Penalty Abolish the Death Penalty - Strongly Opposes National Review of Death Penalty Fairness - Strongly Favor Education * No Child Left Behind Act - Strongly Favor Vouchers for Public, Private or Religious Schools Strongly Favor Increase Federal Funding for Higher Education Strongly Favor Homeland Security * The Patriot Act - Strongly Favor Tighter Immigration Controls - Strongly Favor Iraq * The War in Iraq - Strongly Favor Turning Over More Political Authority to U.N. Undecided Immediate Withdrawal of U.S. Troops - Strongly Opposes Health Care Universal Government-Supervised Health Care - Strongly Opposes Medicare Prescription Drugs Coverage By Private Insurers - Undecided Expand Medicaid to Cover More Uninsured Americans - Strongly Favor Limit Malpractice Suits Against Doctors, Insurers - Strongly Favor Welfare Reform Hiring Welfare Workers Tax Incentive - Somewhat Opposes Welfare Benefits for Legal Immigrants Somewhat Opposes Child Care Services for Getting Off Welfare - Undecided Social Security Raise Retirement Age - Undecided Privatize Social Security - Strongly Favor Cap Payments to Wealthy - Somewhat Favor Tax Cuts Roll Back the Bush Administration Tax Cuts - Strongly Opposes Roll Back Cuts for People Making Over $100,000 - Somewhat Favor Additional Tax Cuts for Businesses - Somewhat Favor Jobs Raise the Minimum Wage - Somewhat Favor Extend Unemployment Benefits - Somewhat Opposes Environment Oil Drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge - Somewhat Opposes Mandatory Clean Air Emissions Standards - Somewhat Favor Tougher Fuel Efficiency Standards - Somewhat Favor So these are my opinions. I'm voting for Bush because I agree more with his policies than with Kerry's. I have nothing against Kerry. I respect him, he is very eloquent and collected when he speaks...but when it comes down to the issues my vote is with Bush...I'm just more on his side. Case closed. However, if there were a better candidate than Bush and Kerry put together than my vote would probably go with them. The polls seem so close right now...lots of tension. Very exciting though! But I'm sure whoever wins the election will do their best...so even if it is Kerry who becomes our next Prez I will definitely try to support them. I love America more than I love its government. *Sigh* Something funny....my speech professor today said she thinks that Bush is dyslexic because he jumbles his words around so much and loses his train of thought...that could be true, an interesting point nontheless. :) Even so, not being able to speak very well isn't a reason why someone shouldn't be a leader. I'd like to point out that I don't like being involved in political/religious/activist debates of any form, and that is probably apparent, hehe. :) Mostly this is because I don't have great debating skills and I think I take things too personally when I get involved in heated conversations. I was the cashier at Target who cried whenever someone blamed me for their credit card not working, lol. My confidence is sometimes easily crushed, and I'm taking risks in saying that. So from now on if anyone starts yelling at me for being a Bush supporter and/or a Republican I'll just point them to this entry and tell them exactly what I've been telling everyone else: I don't like Kerry and I'm voting for Bush. :P Rock the vote.

That’s a pretty cool quiz! I got:
1 Kerry Score: 67%
2 Bush Score: 18%
I’ve been more of a Kerry fan anyway, although I’m not one of those mad Bush haters. I’m not that into politics anyway…and I would vote, but I’m too young. I’ll be able to for the next presidential election:wink:

Very well, i’ll take that. However this is a very strange questionaire. I scored K88 B13, for a total of 101% I must get extra credit for being so Lib.
Hmmm?
“Vouchers for Public, Private or Religious Schools” What’s a public school voucher?
“Turning Over More Political Authority to U.N.”
This question assumes that Kerry would be for this, and Bush against. But this is not the Kerry position. Therefore if you are for Kerry and you choose “opposed” you would be casting the same vote as Bush supporters.
“Immediate Withdrawal of U.S. Troops”
Again, if you are a Bush supporter you would clearly oppose this. By Logic the opposite would be the Kerry position. But Kerry has never called for the immediate withdrawal of troops. Therefore, if you know Kerry’s position and you check “opposed” you would be casting the same vote as a Bush supporter. There are other questions phrased in this way and I hate to use the word because it draws such a “conspiracy theory” response, but they are cleverly biased to skew the results of anyone on the fence.
I won’t argue your stance on abortion. I will try to illuminate how I feel the neo-cons wrap themselves in traditional right wing values for political purpose. Issues like gay marriage are magnets for the religious right. They have stirred up a pot of hatred across the country and are forcing people to take sides on an issue that doesn’t even directly affect them, knowing full well that they will never bring a constitutional amendment. They do not have anywhere near the 2/3 vote needed. And might I add that President Cheney has a gay daughter and has a completely opposing viewpoint against the amendment. This is a ploy using peoples moral convictions to draw political support. It is not Christian to start wars (you know bombs dropping, civillians dying, (I’ll can’t seem to reconcile this with your stance on life (oops, I think I just questioned…))) with no end against a population who also hated the man we professed was such a danger, while the real confessed culprit laughs. Let’s take the school vouchers. They decimate the funding desperately needed to improve these very same schools they say they want to help. And where does that money go to? Let’s be clear, a year at Berkely Prep or any private school starts at around $10,000 a year and can exceed 15,000. A school voucher is proposed at 3-5 thousand. Coincidentally that is just so happens to be the average cost of religious schools. So where do you think that money goes? This is an unprecidented co-mingling of church and state our forefathers specifically warned about. Again also a move to shore up a religious base at the cost of the greater good of the public school system.

I I still don’t agree that he just doesn’t speak well. Yes he does not speak well, but how have you missed the unpreparedness? He literallly said the exact same thing over twenty times and had at best four other one liners. Ninety minutes of this! Not once did he answer like a person who has been fully immersed in world disorder for these years. He’s the one who presented no agenda, not Kerry. Bush is the one who simply attacked and misrepresented the same tired old lines about what Kerry “said”, while having no ability to defend or even credibly explain the things he himself “did”. Almost daily now we are hearing “former this guy” and “commission those guys” about what a mess Bush and cronies have made of this “war”.
And finally, look what they have done to discourse in this country. If you are for anything they do, you are a genius and have security for life, but G-d help you if you oppose. Do I really need to list the loyal Republicans they have smeared, early retired, or even outed (CIA agents). He ran as a “uniter not a divider”. Are we “united”?
I still like your blog.
Is this a temp design for the Boo holliday?
Really liked the last one.
Can’t wait to see Santa.

Silly Republicans, trix are for kids.

83% BUSH!!!!!! Go W!

Lol, Scott you like to scramble people’s brains don’t you. :D That’s ok, most minds need some scrambling once in a while…if not to change their views at least to make them think. I knew about that Kerry issue of the troops…I wish the quiz thing would have specified it a bit more…it is all really generalized. Kerry wants the troops out in 6 months and of course Bush wants them to stay until the war is over…pretty vague but oh well. I was just using the quiz as an example on what I believe.

There are unfortunately always ploys within politics to twist people’s beliefs and morals into thinking the way our leaders think, that is true…especially when it comes down to religion…I agree with you. True, it isn’t Christian to start wars, whether verbal, physical, political, etc…and actually on the general sense of religion most faiths are against that principle as well…yet of course we all are emotively human and get caught up too easily on the rampage of what’s “right” and “wrong” and forgetting the basic values of what we are trying to uphold. Such is life.

Lol, I’m glad you still like my blog…the layout isn’t really a design for Halloween (besides my pixel pumpkins in the sidebar, hehe)…although yes I am planning a Christmas one, hopefully. :-D

And the kids can have the Trix…I’ll take magically delicious Lucky Charms. :D

that quiz only told me what I already know ;) I’m voting for Kerry.

BUT

I am distressed that it didn’t cover ANY other candidates. Where’s Nader on that quiz? Bush and Kerry aren’t the only two candidates, ya know ;)
