We Survived…Again!

September 27th, 2004

I think I'm going to make a T-shirt to commemorate this whole ordeal. Apparently this new hurricane, by far, was the most dangerous out of the last four that have graced Florida's coastlines. Ironically enough we are no longer considered by the nickname The Sunshine State but instead as The Plywood State, or so I've heard on the blog trail. :D

But more seriously, prayers do go up for the people here who have lost their homes and businesses and even (though the number is small) their lives. I've even heard some Floridians are considering leaving the state after what's been going on this past month. I personally don't think you could escape bad weather anywhere...so what's the point? I'm staying! :D

In other news...I read on Slashdot that during this year's presidential election Europe's OSCE will be monitoring our voting so there won't be any screw ups like back in 2000.

Some people find it embarrassing that one of the most powerful countries in the world needs a babysitter but others feel even more mortified that such a powerful nation can't even vote correctly and welcome Europe as a monitor for the election. I guess it's ok for me...of course it is a little sad that we need to be hand held through this but the whole fiasco in 2000 was pathetic and stupid. I hope something like that doesn't happen during this upcoming election.

Virgin Galactic

One of today's Boing Boing articles features Richard Branson's Space Tourism project! According to the article, five of Branson's Virgin Galactic space tour shuttles will be built in the United States with expected flights to begin in year of 2007!

Don't get too excited though...unless your pockets are as deep as Brad Pitt and Britney Spears you might not have a chance to fly out of the Earth's atmosphere until way later. Trip costs begin at $170,000 to $200,000 per person! Eeek. But apparently the Virgin Galactic crew have plans to chop the prices over time. Click here to check out how this project is possible and what it would be like to fly into space!

Random thing...I want some Baked Lays chips. Yum...salt. :D
