A Little Rain

August 31st, 2008

I don't know why, but I've been dying for a good storm lately. I think that's one thing I've come to miss about moving to Kentucky from Florida. In FL when it rains...it rains. The storms are epic and we had hurricanes galore, but there's just something so soothing about a constant drumming of the raindrops on the roof and the clean scent in the air afterward.

I remember back when I lived in Suriname (little country in South America), we'd have such huge storms that the roads would turn to little rivers quite often. Most houses had some part of the roof that was made of a tin top, so if you stood under that room it literally sounded like you were at a STOMP concert (which I've been to one and they rock). You also can't beat the beauty of a rain forest after a good downpour. :)

But here in good ol' Kentucky it's as dry as a bone. Maybe a few sprinklings and a 5 minute shower...but I want a long and powerful symphony of rain. It has always seemed to melt away my stress and calm my thoughts. Lately I've really needed something like that, so I hope we get a storm soon. ;)

Oh me too. I so love the sound of the rain hitting on the roof. And the smell afterward…what can beat the smell of the forest after a good rainstorm?? I’m with you, but I think it’s better when it’s warm and rains, not when it’s cold.

I cannot relate to that… Here we have storms and bad weather from september to may, or more like one continous long storm. But I can get that it must be nice if it’s like a week of rain and storm and then the good weather comes back :) I think I would miss it if I moved somewhere with pretty much no rain :T

We’ve had a few storms, our summer hasn’t been all that great. We must have had just a week’s worth of sunny days.

Whenever I go to Kentucky I notice how dry it is compared to Toronto… but really, it’s so beautiful (at least where I go - Lexington) that I don’t mind.

I currently live in Florida … want to trade? Gustav is causing lots and lots of wind and soon-to-be rain. You would have loved Fay, since it was here for days … the rain seemed like it lasted forever. At work (Target) we sold out of ponchos and umbrellas because of it haha. I don’t mind the rain, but when it rains for days it gets old very fast. It can be very calming at night when I am trying to sleep though :)

Poor thing, I’m having the same type of weather and I agree totally! Though I personally only like a big heavy storm if I know I’ll be inside all day, and on summer days. 5 minutes showers and smatterings of rain throughout the day are just annoying!
It’s alright, I actually am the weather and nature itself personified, trapped within a human body (Pirates of the Caribbean, Calypso style!). I’ll just send some BIG SCARY THUNDERSTORMS over to Kentucky for ya :)
