Camping Fun

June 20th, 2004
Eeek...we just got a whole new group of girls yesterday for another summer week session....and they are crazy insane. For those who don't know already I am a resident camp counselor, whoohoooo! My camp name is Sunny. :D I'm working at a camp that I went to for like 7 summers in a row when I was younger...I got the name here as well when I was still a camper because I wore a bright yellow hat and was apparently super cheery most of the time. :D The same camp directors that were there when I was younger are still here, which ROCKS! The summer has gone well so far...I've been here for almost four weeks, currently into the second week of campers. First week was lifeguard/CPR training...second was pre-camp counselor training...and then finally we got our first group last week. All I gots to say is that little girls got issues, lol. My unit had the 6-7-8 year olds...and I miss them so much right now...seriously. Even all of their petty complaining...the "injuries"...the whining and selective listening...right now I would honestly trade this new group for my girls from last week. This week the entire camp is in a program called Night Owls. Normal camp schedule is shifted two hours later...so instead of the kids going to bed at 10pm they get lights out at 12. We went on a night hike & spider hunt last night and found a gazillion spider webs, which was pretty cool...when the girls weren't screaming their heads off at certain intervals, lol. And for at least two hours after lights out last night kids were coming to the counselor's cabin every few minutes for lame reasons..."My eye hurts"..."I'm hungry"..."I can't sleep"..."The other side of the cabin is talking"...and on and on. We had one girl even try to run away from her cabin!! And others were getting dressed at 2am forgetting that it wasn't morning already....aaahhhhh!!! I want my girls back from last week...*snif*...but oh well...I'm hoping that once I and the other four counselors I work with get to know these 24 new girls better then we'll want them back too when another group rolls in next week. Tonight's evening program is Sock Hop! The whole camp gathers at the dining hall and dances around to crazy music in their socks...its super fun. :D Also another plus is that it tires the girls out really fast...muah ha ha!!! :D Ok, break is almost over...I'll end my post with a couple camp songs. :) Click the link below to check them out! Canoe Song Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe with the moon shining all around he paddled his paddle so you couldn't hear a single sound... And they talked and they talked 'til the moon grew dim he said you better kiss me or get out and swim so whaddya do in a little canoe with the moon shining all around! Just a boy and a girl in a little canoe with the moon shining all around he paddled his paddle so you couldn't hear a single sound... And they talked and they talked 'til the moon grew dim he said you better kiss me or get out and swim so whaddya do in a little canoe with the moon shining all a- the boat floatin' all a- the BOY swimming all around KICK HIM OUT!!! WHOO! Three Bears Once upon a time in a nursery rhyme there were three bears...cha cha cha... one day they were walkin' in the woods they were talkin' when along came a pretty girl with long flowing golden curls her name was Goldy Locks up upon the door she knocked she didn't care...that no one was there she just walked right in, just walked right in! Well, home came those three bears "HEY, someone's been eating my porridge!" said the papa bear, SAID THE PAPA BEAR "Someone's been eating my porridge!" said the mama bear, SAID THE MAMA BEAR well "Hey Mama, see there" said the little wee bear, "SOMEONE HAS BROKEN MY CHAIR, HOOOAHHH!!" Goldie Locks she woke up, she broke up the part-ay and she beat it outta there HEY she beat it outta there... *points to other post* Wow - the author of your book contacted you! That’s so awesome! Anyway - it sounds like camp is going to be interesting to say the least. Poor girls - poor you…lol.
