OMG. I just got a newsletter email from Shelly Jackson!!!! I must calm down!!
Hehe! Yeah, so Shelly Jackson is the writer of a now practically world-famous story called Skin, which is the first ever story published on the skin of 2,050 people, instead of just paper. About two years ago, she opened up the "call" for volunteers to become the "words" of her story. From what I remember, you had to send her an email describing your interest in her project. She picks out the applications she likes the most and sends each back one word of her story.
If you are one of the lucky few to get a word, you go and get it tattooed somewhere on your body. She has specific guidelines for it. You will then become a permanent part of her "Skin" story. It's very official, she sends you a certificate and a copy of the story, which only the "words" are ever allowed to know what the entirety of the story is.
You might think its weird and silly. But if you look at her project's statistics you will see that she has gotten literally thousands of applications! I am one of them! I emailed her two years ago! :dead: That's why I'm so excited...I'm actually on her mailing list! Meaning my little email hasn't been deleted from her inbox! Meaning maybe I'm still in for consideration!! *Squee!*
I know it's been that long because I was hoping for a "word" to be my first tattoo. Also because I first learned about it from my friend Becky who I met in a photography class I took in the spring of 2004.
However, I do love my current tattoo that I ended up getting July of 2004. And I want to get a second tattoo, I just haven't decided what yet.
I would positively jump for joy if Shelley picked me to be a word!! I would LOOOOOVE to have that as my second tattoo!! Omg omg omg...I hope and pray she accepts my email. I actually have no idea what I wrote anymore, lol. So I hope its not too childish...
Oh well...here's hoping!
bee buddy here
Anyways, wow I’ve never heard of the project but it sounds quite itricate and creative. Reminds me of postsecret in that it connects thousands of strangers in a very personal way. Although personally, I find getting a permanent tattoo to be sort of extreme but you would have a pretty cool story to tell people when they ask about it. Good luck!!
:bouncy: ooooo fun!! Good luck!! I’ll jump with u!! 1-2-3 go!! :bouncy: hehe!
