Kick the Habit!

March 22nd, 2006

Wow, I'm still not doing great at this "keeping up with my blog" thing. :P Sorry everyone!

I've actually been contemplating bringing back up my design site. I need to start freelancing more often to hone my design skills and get more experience in this field if I plan on trying to get a related job in the next year or so. I will most likely transfer this blog to a subdomain (like blog.guitarangel.net or something) and keep the main index page as my design site!

I need to do lots of research first though. Last year a guest speaker came to one of my classes to talk about freelancing. He spoke alot about the importance of a contract between you, as the designer, and your clients. I need to email him to ask him for more tips if I really want to get this going. No stones unturned, I don't want to be ripped off and I want to create the most amazing websites possible for people!

Yeah, so those are my plans. Look for new things coming soon. I know that's what I always say, but I really mean it this time! :)

Just stopping by your site again! I’m in Internet Interaction right now with Sae Schatz and she was actually talking about freelancing today. Some of the tips she gave us that I’m taking into consideration right now are getting a professional domain name (I’m thinking of just doing myname.com) for your portfolio, business cards, and doing sites for cheap just so you have something to put in your portfolio. She said she started off offering a flat fee of $500 per site until she got more experience. I’m also thinking of asking if I can redo my church’s and my old employer’s websites for free just so I have some business site to put in my portfolio. She also said that in her experiance, even if your sites are crazy impressive yet, that being organized and “put-together” almost matters more than experiance. But yeah, it’s kind of intimidating when thinking about how to get started and getting your name out there!

Hey Mel. I was just thinking about ya @ u-life tonight and someone said that you were working on stuff tonight, and so I was wondering if you needed any help with that. Feel free to send me an e-mail or whatnot.

Hey. I randomly stumbled across your website. I just got such a great, happy feeling reading about you! Yeah, there should be more people around like yourself. Who give out good vibes! :)

In regards to your plans about freelancing as a website designer, I think the first step should be to complete this one, I was disappointed that only the blog and about sections were available. Best of luck with your plans! I am also aiming to be a freelancer (illustrator) once I finish my studies, so I know how exciting and daunting it seems :D
